An August “Mixed Grill”

In the name of Christ, I greet you! We enter the month of August, and I’m excited for the days ahead! First, I’m thinking of Psalm 63:1 – It reads: “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” Join me in praying for rain for our dry land. Even in the midst of drought, we praise God, from Whom all blessings flow!

A couple things I’ll highlight this month:

1st—Once again I thank you, on behalf of Sharon, too, for your constant prayers, concern shown, expressions of love and the support you have given us! Sharon’s recovery is slow and steady—and we thank God for His hands cradling her. In a world and life that can seem dry and hopeless, the rich fullness of God’s presence in Word and Sacraments continues to water and feed our faith. So vital to us!

2nd—I’m excited about the return of Men’s Breakfast Bible Class. Yes! We are going to begin gathering again at the I-HOP on the IH-35 frontage road. Beginning Friday, September 9, their side room awaits our Friday morning gatherings from 6:30-7:30 a.m. Men, bring your Bibles, friends, and appetites! We are going to explore a book entitled Biblical Manhood. It promises to be a thought-provoking time of fellowship and conversation.

3rd—Another year for Cross Lutheran School begins August 24. Elsewhere in this edition of the Cross Ties you’ll find more information about the new faces and new things going on with our amazing Lutheran School ministry here at Cross! For my part, I’m including an invitation to come to the Opening Service for our School year, at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24.

4th— If you’ve been away from regular attendance in Worship on Sundays, please know that now is the time to return! You’ve heard me say this before: for the people of God, Worship is His command and our joyful and faithful response! Miss a Sunday, miss out on a lot! So, come to God’s house! Bring yourself, your loved ones, your friends and neighbors. Bring your tithes and offerings—responding to God’s love in the grace of joyfully returning to Him that which He has given to us. God’s grace, love and more flow to us through the Word and your Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Come and be truly flooded by His gifts for you!

That’s it from me for this month!  God’s blessings, and I look forward to seeing you in church!

In the name Christ, in Whom we are one,

Pastor Don Fraker – Colossians 3:15
