In 1 Corinthians 11:28, God's Word teaches: "Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup." Examining yourself before receiving this sacrament is a vital practice for Baptized and Confirmed Christians.
As you get ready to receive the Lord's Supper, follow the guidance of Scripture and consider whether you believe the follow statements as your own sincere confession of faith.
- I am sorry for all my sins.
- I believe that the body and blood of Christ Jesus are truly present in the Sacrament; and that with the bread and wine I receive His true body and blood.
- I resolve to make a sincere effort to amend my sinful life.
- I come to the Sacrament of Holy Communion believing that it is "given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins."
